Sunshine Project

The SUNSHINE PROJECT brings subsidized tennis lessons directly to low-income neighbourhoods in north-west Toronto, making this sport a viable after school activity for children ages 6 - 12. By making use of public tennis sites located adjacent to our schools, this project succeeds in breaking down the biggest barriers to tennis: proximity, price, and required equipment to play. Each year the project will move to new neighbourhoods, giving different children a chance to play, totaling 900 in enrolement over 3 years.

The program for 2015 will:

> Operate Monday to Thursday each week, for a total of 10 weeks (April 14th - June 18th)

> Run at 4 outdoor tennis sites simultaneously: Stanley Park, Chalkfarm Park, Hullmark Park, and Beaumonde Hts. Park

> Maximum capacity of 300 participants, ages 6 - 12 years old

> Lessons are 3:30pm - 5:00 (ages 6 - 10) and 5:00pm - 6:30pm (ages 8 - 12)

> Provide participants with a personal tennis racquet and a yearbook/guide to further participation in community tennis, including invitiations to your nearest communtiy tennis club's opening day BBQ

> Incorporate 8 local youth who will train as leaders and work alongside the Wilmington Tennis coaching staff throughout the project
