Ottawa U9/U10 Circuit Overview

The aim of the U9/U10 Ottawa Circuit is to create a competitive opportunity for the more advanced U9/U10 junior tennis player with encouraging participation. The U9/U10 Circuit Tour is for:

More experienced players who have competed in a Rogers Rookie event before or looking to try a more competitive event.
Competitors who are looking to enhance their competitive experience and meet the Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) competitive criteria.

The tour will offer a variety of stops, indoor and outdoor, across the Ottawa region allowing players to compete, on average, twice a month in the outdoor season and accumulate points in a yearly points race. Here are some important details you should know:

Any participants from Ontario or Quebec can register.
Girls and boys will be combined in one draw in order to ensure that every has a suitable number of participants to make it successful.
The point’s race will be updated by Zhenya Kondratovsky, Ottawa Regional Coordinator and posted on www.ncta.ca and www.tennisontario.com.

Points:

To create a healthy and positive competitive environment, the Points race is designed to reward participation and success. Please find more details on the points’ race below.

Participation:

Player’s participating in a U9/U10 Ottawa Circuit event will receive 400 points per tournament towards their year-end total.

Round Robin Format:

All U9/U10 Ottawa Circuit events will be done in a round robin format:

a) Each player will receive 100 points per round robin win

b) In the event of a tie, the 100 points may be split or a one point tie breaker will be played to determine a winner (this will be left to the discretion of the tournament director).

c) In the case where round robin boxes have a different number of players, more than 100 points will be awarded for each round robin win within boxes with fewer players. This will ensure that all players are given an equal opportunity to attain the same amount of points when playing the round robin. The value of points awarded for round robin wins within boxes with fewer players is determined in the following way:

Case #1: There are 7 players in the tournament… a box of 4 and a box of 3.

A = Total possible points are calculated for a player in the larger box if he/she wins all round robin matches.

o In this case it would be 300 (3 wins X 100 points = 300 points).

B = Total number of matches for a player in the smaller box.

o In this case 2 matches.

C = Number of points to award for each round robin match win within the smaller box would be equal to A / B.

o In this case 300/2=150.

o All players in the box of 3 will earn 150 points per round robin win.

Case #2: There are 9 players in the tournament… a box of 5 and a box of 4.

A = Total possible points are calculated for a player in the larger box if he/she wins all round robin matches.

o In this case it would be 400 (4 wins X 100 points = 400 points).

B = Total number of matches for a player in the smaller box.

o In this case 3 matches.

C = Number of points to award for each round robin match win within the smaller box would be equal to A / B.

o In this case 400/3=133.33

o All players in the box of 4 will earn 133.33 points per round robin win.

Elimination Round:

Players finishing at the top of their Round Robin box qualify to play in a standard single elimination tournament. Each win in the elimination round is worth 100 points each.

1 Win = 100 points

Note: The number of players qualifying for the elimination portion of the tournament is determined by the Tournament director. Draw size may vary in accordance to the court availability.

Scoring Format:

All matches will be best of three short sets up to 4, no ad, tie breaker up to 5 at 3-all. In the event of third set, a match tie breaker up to 5 will be played. Matches will most likely be timed and limited to 40 min long.

Note: all tie breakers must be won by 2 points.

Parent Info:

At the OTA it is our goal to ensure that tennis parents and coaches are educated on how to support their child and others during tournament play. Please find some helpful pointers listed below.

It is encouraged that all parents clap for good efforts and good points for all kids
There should be NO COACHING ALLOWED
There should be NO OUTSIDE OFFICIATING ALLOWED. This includes line calls and scoring. It’s the player’s responsibility to learn these skills. If there are any disputes on court it’s the player’s responsibility to call for the tournament director or court monitor.
Parents are not to communicate with their kids during a match. Should they need topass a water bottle or anything else, they must do so through the Tournament directoror roving umpire.
It is the parent’s responsibility that the child is at the location of the event in plenty of time and all prepared 15 minutes before start time.
Clapping on player’s mistakes will not be tolerated.
Parents are to find the tournament director desk and ensure payment is made and that the child has signed in for the event.

Tournament Registration:

All players competing must be a registered competitor of the Ontario Tennis Association. Please complete the following steps when registering for a U9/U10 Ottawa Circuit tournament.

Step #1: Register as an OTA competitor @ ota.tournamentsoftware.com.

Note: An annual fee of $80.00 will be required in order to process the membership.

Step #2: Fax or email your proof of age to the below contact information

Step #3: Go to ota.tournamentsoftware.com and search “U9/U10 Circuit” in the tournament search tool at the top of the page. A list should appear for all U9/U10 Circuit events across Ontario.

Find a tournament listed in the Ottawa region (a little blue icon will appear on the Map above Ottawa)

Note: Once the proof of age is received the player profile will be activated and you’ll now be able to register online for a tournament.

Step #4: Click the “online entry” button to the right of the tournament posting to register.

Congratulations! You’ve now registered for a U9/U10 Circuit tournament. Please check your start time and draw online on the Wednesday prior to the event.
