The OTA welcomes UTR as its newest strategic partner!
The Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) is pleased to welcome Universal Tennis as its newest strategic partner.
Universal Tennis is the company behind the UTR Engagement Platform, anchored by the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). The organization supports the growth of tennis by providing a ratings solution and technology that assists players to compete in truly level-based play and increase engagement at all levels. The organization’s mission is to create more opportunities and pathways to the game by bringing cutting edge analytics and community-based technology to players worldwide, independent of their level of play.
UTR is quickly being adopted by tennis players around the world thanks to its accurate, real time tennis rating that is based purely on tennis results. UTR is the world’s most accurate tennis rating system and rates all players on the same scale, regardless of age, gender or geography. The partnership with UTR allows the OTA and its member clubs and players to join with other countries and federations in using the global system to organize events and participate in evaluating tennis players worldwide.
OTA President and CEO James Boyce commented: “The OTA is pleased welcome Universal Tennis as a partner. The UTR world-wide tennis rating platform can be an excellent addition to our clubs’ member benefits and will allow rec-level players to literally be on the same rating platform as over 2 million other players from around the world, including the world’s best. We look forward to promoting the benefits of UTR to our 250 member tennis clubs, their players and the larger Ontario tennis community.”
“We are pleased to be partnering with the largest Provincial Tennis Association in Canada” said Anne Worcester, President of Universal Tennis. “Our aim is to support Ontario’s tennis clubs, players and coaches in order to create more opportunities to promote friendly, level-based competition and open new pathways to the game for players of all levels. Through competitive play at OTA member clubs adopting the UTR Engagement platform for competitive events, rec-level players in Ontario can play locally while having their UTR results count globally”
How UTR Works:
The Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is an algorithm-based system for tennis that allows anyone to identify, measure, track and develop the level of a player. Every player receives a rating between 1 and 16.5 that reflects their level of play. Three factors go into the rating: strength of opponent, the score (based on games won), and recent history. Players can use their UTR to gain an accurate, real-time measurement of their skill level and find more opportunities and different players to play. Coaches and organizers can use UTR to evaluate player ability, organize more competitive events and create more opportunities for players of all levels to participate in the game.
