











2022 Canadian Seniors Calendar!
As it appears we are finally recovering from the pandemic, and many are looking forward to playing senior tournaments in 2022, Tennis Canada is pleased to announce that the 2022 Senior Tournament schedule is now available. We have a full complement of ITF indoor and outdoor events organized, plus the Steve Stevens Senior Nationals tournament, which is returning to Vancouver, August 21-27. More details on the Steve Stevens Senior Nationals will follow- watch for it in future SPIN releases.

2022 Senior ITF Tournaments- April thru June
The 2022 schedule kicks-off April 1 with the Van Lawn Masters in Vancouver, April 1-10 at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club. This tournament, rich in tradition, is returning for its 43rd year after a two- year absence. “The VLTBC Masters is one of the biggest tennis tournaments in BC, attracting the best players from across the province and beyond. With the popularity of tennis growing even more throughout the pandemic we look forward to welcoming 200+ players back to Vancouver Lawn for an exciting week of tennis,” mentioned Heather Nivison, Athletics Director at Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club.
Next up is the Yonex ITF Senior event in memory of Hans Macieg, May 20-23 in Calgary at the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre. This tournament, in memory of long-time senior’s player and supporter Hans Macieg, is moving to the spring this year. We are pleased to bring back the Yonex Calgary ITF Senior Event in Memory of Hans Maciej to the OSTEN & VICTOR Alberta Tennis Centre”. We enjoy hosting this event and look forward to bringing another competitive opportunity for our senior tennis players in Canada”, said Danny DaCosta, CEO, Alberta Tennis Centre.
Next stop is the Aviva Centre in Toronto for the Wilson/Aviva ITF event #1, May 25-29. The tournament was postponed in December of 2021 because of the pandemic. “We are excited to welcome Canada’s best senior players to our World-class facility at the Aviva Centre. Senior players will encounter the feeling that WTA and ATP experience
on the hard courts of the Aviva Centre;” commented Ryan Borczon, Director of Professional and National events for Tennis Canada.

June is a busy month with two events scheduled in the East and the West.
“Tennis BC is very excited to welcome back BC ITF Senior Provincials, which will be held at the Bear Mountain Tennis Centre on Vancouver Island from June 4-12. After two years of limited competitive senior play in BC, the beautiful resort town with 8 clay courts awaits Western Canada’s top senior talent.”, remarked, Max Korch, Event, Coordinator/Player Development at Tennis BC.
“On behalf of the ITF Seniors, Tennis Canada & Tennis Tremblant teams, we are extending you a cordial invitation to the 2022 Mont-Tremblant ITF Cup tournament. This ITF S1000 tournament will be held in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, from June 6-12, 2022. It is one of two ITF S1000 tournament held in North America in 2022. In 2019, the last year the tournament was held due to the pandemic, the tournament was recognized by ITF Seniors as a TOP 10 S700 tournament in the world (in 2019 it was a S700 ITF Seniors tournament). ITF Super Senior and Senior World Championships
The Super Senior (April 24-29) and Senior (May 1-6), ITF Team World Championships are returning to Palm Beach County, this spring. Our teams have been selected and can be found shortly at the following link: Resources - Tennis Canada.” It was a daunting task to select the teams this year, but the Team Selection Committee and the Seniors Committee spent tireless hours, analyzing player’s past performances along with limited current results, to select what we feel are the best teams to represent Canada at the up-coming ITF Super Senior and Senior World Championships. We wish them all the best of luck!” stated Cora Wills, Seniors Tennis Committee Chair.

2022 Billy Jean Cup - Vancouver
Well, the secret is out… Billie Jean King Cup, formerly Fed Cup, is coming back to Vancouver for the first time since 1996! Tennis Canada announced - Team Canada presented by Sobeys will return to British Columbia on April 15-16 for their Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers tie against Team Latvia at the Pacific Coliseum on the Pacific National Exhibition grounds. That means the likes of Leylah Annie Fernandez, Rebecca Marino and Bianca Andreescu could be taking to the courts in B.C. very soon.
