Meet the OTA Board - Rick Bertozzi

Rick Bertozzi, Vice-Chair - Finance & Administration, Ontario Tennis Association, has been a tennis player, organizer, administrator, and instructor for more than three decades.

Rick joined the OTA Board of Directors five years ago as Director at Large while serving a 12-year tenure with the InterCounty Tennis Association (ICTA) where he served as Board member and President. He is currently in his fifth year as Vice-Chair.

An avid supporter of community tennis, Rick has been a member of at least one community club each year since he started playing tennis in his early 30s. He has served in a variety of roles including President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Program Director. He recently assumed the role of President, Kleinburg (West Vaughan) Tennis Club, north of Toronto. He is also a member of the Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) and earned the designation Club Pro 1. He has focused on a variety of programs including the OTA Grants for Adults, Freedom 50 and Green Means Go.

Many recreational players in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have benefitted from Rick’s efforts to organize ad hoc winter tennis at various clubs in the city. It is an activity he has undertaken for the past quarter century.

An active player himself, Rick frequently organizes doubles matches at various public courts, bringing together various players from different parts of the GTA. He is a three-time Mixed Doubles Champion at Applewood Tennis Club (one of which was broadcast on the Rogers Channel) and won several InterCounty League championships.

Now retired, Rick worked in both the private and public sectors and spent over 30 years in various senior roles including Corporate Manager, Project Manager, Senior Business Consultant, Senior Auditor, Business Advisor, and Program Analyst at six Ontario government ministries. He sat on numerous committees, including Chair of the Health, Safety and Wellness Committee, Chair of the Pension Committee, Chair of the Nomination Committee, and a member of the Audit Committee. He currently operates his own consulting business.

As one tennis friend recently said of Rick: “When you look up ‘tennis volunteer’ in the dictionary, don’t be surprised if you see Rick’s photo.”
