Schools Activation

About the Program

The Kids’ Tennis School Program provides all Healthy Community Schools in Ontario with the opportunity for children to TRY Progressive Indoor Tennis. For many students, this will be their first exposure to tennis. It can be offered as a free program or as a fee for service by selected school boards. The program teaches students the importance of regular physical activity, general (Fundamentals) physical literacy and movement skills. This fulfills the mandate of the OTA to gain new participants at the grassroots level. Also, raising student awareness of a pathway for further play directly with the vibrant culture of Community Programs & Tennis Clubs. This program supports teachers with both general and specialized Phys Ed qualifications and will feel comfortable implementing this program.

Collaboration

To enhance and broaden the potential impact of this program. We encourage coaches, volunteers and neighbouring OTA member tennis clubs to participate in offering this program to schools in their community. To achieve the best results for the students, we encourage all to continue strengthening relationships between the school and the Pathway to community tennis programs and clubs for life-long participation.

An OTA coach may attend to help introduce the program if the coach or volunteer from the club is less experienced. Resources such as introduction letters, equipment, and lesson plans are available upon request. Schools interested in this program can contact OTA if representatives from their community tennis club are unresponsive.
