OTA Registers its 3,000th Active Competitor! |
|||
The OTA reached a milestone this week when it registered its 3,000th active competitive player for the first time in its 105-year history! The organization oversees the competitive structure across the province in multiple junior adult and master (over 30) categories. There are over 600 scheduled tournament draws in Ontario each year, including Provincial Championships in all categories. Recent Ontario competitive player alumni include Frank Dancevic, Milos Raonic, Bianca Andreescu and Denis Shapovalov! Amongst the current 3,025 (and counting…) active tournament players, there are 1,002 adults (over 18) players and 2023 juniors. Nike Transition Tour Circuit U12/U14 Results |
|||
The Nike Transition Tour Circuit kicked off last week at Sobeys Stadium. 64 boys and 51 girls competed in singles action in U12 and U14 age categories. Most of the draws were divided into 2 divisions and included a full consolation, to give the players more match play in a condensed period of time. NCTA/OTA Player of the Month for May – Aubrey Sui! |

Under 12 competitor Aubrey Sui from Ottawa is the NCTA/OTA May Player of the Month. Aubrey trains at the Rideau Sports Centre (RCS) with Rachel Cruickshank and Pierre Tafelski at the club’s high-performance program. Aubrey shares his story on his Youtube profile; how he starting to play tennis in China, how he deals with the ups and downs of the sport and what he is working on with his coaches, all leading up to this spring, when he made it to the 2023 Tennis Canada Fischer Indoor Junior Nationals! Davis Cup Trophy Tours Ontario Clubs! |

The authentic Davis Cup trophy paid a visit to several OTA-member tennis clubs recently. After visiting Western Canada, the Cup made its way to the Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre, followed by a stop in Ottawa at the Rideau Sports Centre, Rockcliffe Tennis Club and Tennis Centre West Ottawa, and then on to Marilyn Redvers Tennis Centre in Markham and Kew Gardens Tennis Club in Toronto. The Cup is in the middle of a nationwide tour celebrating Canada’s Davis Cup victory in 2022! The tour is visiting tennis clubs and community events across Canada this spring and summer.
