ICTA Championships 2026,Sobeys Stadium, Toronto |
A Celebration of Tennis, Community and Competition On September 19, Sobeys Stadium came alive with the energy, excitement and camaraderie of the 2026 ICTA Championships, bringing together tennis players, families, friends and supporters for a memorable celebration of community tennis. With approximately 200 adult and junior competitors and hundreds of spectators, the Championships were a wonderful showcase of the talent, dedication and sportsmanship that make the InterCounty Tennis Association such an important part of Ontario's tennis community. From the first serve to the final point, the atmosphere was filled with competitive spirit, enthusiastic encouragement and the unmistakable joy of being part of something special. Players from clubs across the region took to the courts, representing their teams with pride and demonstrating that, while everyone comes to compete, the friendships and connections formed through tennis are just as meaningful as the results. More Than a Tournament The ICTA Championships are about much more than winning trophies. They celebrate the commitment of players who dedicate countless hours to their sport, the captains and club representatives who bring teams together, and the volunteers who work behind the scenes to make organized tennis possible throughout the season. For many participants, the Championships were an opportunity to reconnect with familiar opponents, meet players from other clubs and experience the excitement of competing at one of Toronto's premier tennis venues. For the junior players, it was also an opportunity to experience the thrill of championship tennis, build confidence and become part of the wider tennis community. The combination of adult and junior competition reflected the strength of tennis across generations and the importance of encouraging young players to continue developing their passion for the game. A Community Effort An event of this scale would not be possible without the generosity, dedication and teamwork of an extraordinary group of people. Behind every well-organized court, every smoothly run match and every welcoming detail was a team of volunteers working together with a shared purpose. From planning schedules and coordinating players to managing registrations, preparing food, welcoming spectators and ensuring the day ran smoothly, every contribution helped create an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The support of our sponsors and partners was equally important. Their generosity helped enhance the Championships and provided opportunities to introduce participants to products, services and organizations that support the sport. We extend our sincere appreciation to all the sponsors who believed in the event and contributed to its success. We are also grateful to Sobeys Stadium for providing such a wonderful setting for the Championships. Playing at this world-class tennis venue made the occasion especially memorable for competitors and spectators alike. Celebrating the Spirit of Tennis Perhaps the most rewarding part of the Championships was witnessing the enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed throughout the event. Whether celebrating a hard-fought victory, encouraging a teammate or simply enjoying the opportunity to play, participants demonstrated the values that make tennis such a special sport. The Championships also served as a reminder of the important role that community tennis clubs play in bringing people together. Across the ICTA network, clubs provide opportunities for competition, recreation, friendship and lifelong participation in sport. As the final matches concluded and another championship weekend came to an end, one thing was clear: the success of the event was measured not only by the tennis played, but also by the memories created, the friendships strengthened and the collective pride of a community coming together. On behalf of the ICTA, thank you to every player, volunteer, sponsor, club representative, family member and spectator who contributed to making the 2026 Championships such a memorable occasion. Congratulations to Our 2026 Champions! The ICTA extends its warmest congratulations to all the winners and finalists of the 2026 Championships. Their outstanding performances, determination and sportsmanship made for an exciting weekend of tennis. We also applaud every competitor who took to the courts and helped make this year's Championships such a memorable event. It was more than a weekend of tennis. It was a celebration of everything that makes our tennis community special. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the courts! Final Results

Barrie Community Tennis Club50th Anniversary Celebration! |
The Barrie Community Tennis Club (BCTC) is proud to celebrate 50 years of community tennis and fellowship as recognized by the OTA (Ontario Tennis Association). On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the club celebrated this historical milestone at the year-end BBQ with former and current club members, the Deputy Mayor of Barrie and other local dignitaries. Brief speeches highlighted the club’s development over the years.
BCTC, with the assistance of a Molson Fund grant, a city loan, and contributions from members, built a clubhouse on site and in 2007, additional tennis club funding was created with help from a Trillium Foundation grant. The Barrie Community Tennis Club operates out of the Queen’s Park location with 4 tennis courts. Programming has grown over the years and now includes scheduled social play, round robins, tournaments, ladders, adult skill development in addition to summer kids’ camps. The club’s unique scheduling method allows new members to easily meet players and get integrated into the club and tennis community. We are committed to supporting community tennis players at all levels, to develop their tennis skills and enjoy the sport.
Like most clubs, BCTC has endured many challenges over the years; relocating the club to other city courts during court resurfacing, COVID and most recently increasing court rental costs. However, we have faced each challenge, by actively working with the Barrie City staff to find ways to mitigate these issues. The BCTC is a recipient of this year’s OTA Outstanding Club Achievement Award. This award is given to tennis clubs whose commitment to programming, competition, and community engagement continues to strengthen tennis across the province. Our tennis club is extremely proud of our accomplishments and this achievement. Thanks to BCTC’s Heidi Berry for the story and pictures! Happy 50th Anniversary from the OTA! |

Concussion Management Tracking Tool |
Important information from the Government of Ontario for players, coaches, parents and club executives. As part of the OTA’s ongoing joint effort with the Ministry of Sport to promote athlete safety, we are distributing a new Concussion Management Tracking Tool. Although the sport of tennis is not often associated with concussions, it can happen to a person by getting hit with a ball or racquet or falling on a court or locker facility at clubs and tournament sites. The OTA believes it is important to ensure that coaches, players, their families, club executives and other related stakeholders are aware of the resources and tracking tools now available. The tool can be found alongside Ontario’s suite of concussion resources at this link. A digital or printed version of the tool can be voluntarily shared by a player (or their parent or guardian) with their school, club and/or academy, as they progress through the return to sport steps. The contents of this tool are based on expert concussion management guidance from Parachute’s 2nd edition Canadian Guidelines for Concussion in Sport, which is the same guidance that informs all other concussion-related materials on the Government of Ontario’s concussion portal webpages. Sharing an athlete’s concussion management status across the school and sport settings through the assistance of resources like the Concussion Management Tracking Tool, is one of the many ways we can collectively help make sport safer for Ontario’s athletes. |
