Headed up by Provincial coaches Isabella Baston (back row, above left) and Mark Cooper (back row, above right), Each match over the 3-day competition counted toward the cumulative points to determine the winning team, with different activity formats offered over the three days. Team Ontario ended up being defeated by the home squad in a closely-contested tie. Below is a summary of how the weekend went Friday, April 25: After a small opening ceremony to kick off the festivities and the traditional jersey exchange, all players played two singles matches as well as a friendly tournament nicknamed the “chockeux”. At the end of this first day, Quebec led 21 points to 15. Saturday, April 26: The second day of competition saw the athletes compete in two more singles matches, followed by a doubles tournament. In singles competition Quebec added 20 points to Ontario's 12, bringing the total to 41 to 27. In the doubles tournament that followed, Quebec added 14 points to Ontario's 10. The result after two days of competition was 55 points to 37 in favour of Quebec. Sunday, April 27: Quebec wins Sunday’s individual tournament action saw Ontario reduce the gap by outscoring Quebec 15 points to 13. In the end, Team Quebec defeated Team Ontario by a final score of 68-52. Coach Cooper offered this assessment of the event. “We hope that all the kids had a fantastic experience and improved or learned along the way. Though we didn't achieve the overall results that we wanted, I think we can say that the team showed a lot of strength of character, good sportsmanship, and skill throughout the tournament, which is what this competition was all about. Furthermore, we did achieve some great results as a team in the doubles and in the singles tiebreak tournament on Sunday.” Individual Tournament Winners:
At the end of the competition, honors were awarded to recognize great sportsmanship: Quebec: Violetta Munoz and Rémi Paré Ontario: Tina Liu and Liam Blit Zheng Congratulations to both teams for their outstanding play! Thanks to Tennis Quebec for story details. |

GAME. SET. EQUITY. Grants Awarded |
Tennis Canada, in partnership with National Bank, has awarded 28 Canadian organizations, including 9 from Ontario, with a GAME. SET. EQUITY. Community Tennis Grant. A total of $100,000 was awarded from the program this year, bringing the total to date that has been invested in the initiative that fosters the participation, retention, and advancement of women and girls in tennis, to nearly $300,000. Since this initiative launched in 2022, it has continued to grow, and with organizations located in nine provinces and two territories, this marks the largest-ever group of grant recipients. In addition, Tennis Canada will also be offering additional support, such as education and resources, to our applicant community, further expanding efforts to promote equity and inclusion in tennis. “Every year, the momentum behind this program continues to grow — and this latest group of recipients shows not only how deeply invested and engaged communities across the country are to making tennis more inclusive, but also how great the need remains,” said Terri Temelini, Director, Women & Girls Advancement, Tennis Canada. “These grants go beyond funding — they represent a meaningful step toward a more equitable future for our sport. We’re proud to support so many organizations creating real opportunities for women and girls, and we look forward to continuing this important work alongside National Bank.” "National Bank is very proud to work with Tennis Canada to shape a future where women and girls can not only thrive in sports but also play an active role as leaders and role models. Such actions have positive impacts that extend far beyond the courts and resonate within communities across Canada. We are proud to contribute to this innovative program that generates concrete and significant outcomes towards a more inclusive tennis and society. It is both inspiring and deeply motivating," said Lucie Blanchet, Executive Vice-President, Personal Banking and Client Experience at National Bank. This year’s grantees are advancing equity in sport by centering the diverse experiences of women and girls. Initiatives include providing access to tennis for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, women and girls from low-income communities, and newcomers to Canada. It feels appropriate to launch this new identity to coincide with the NBO’s expansion, as fans prepare to enjoy more days, more matches, more sessions and to watch more players in action in 2025. It suits a tournament that belongs among the world’s best."
