Congrats to Team Ontario for a great showing at the recent at the U18 Fischer Junior Outdoor Nationals. Team members captured three of the four titles and finished as a finalist in the fourth! Seven of the eight finalists were from Team Ontario! Noelle Dai Wins U18 Girls Singles Title Congratulations to Noelle Dai (North York, above), who won the Girls’ Singles title at the 2026 U18 Fischer Outdoor National Championships. The fifth seed battled past third-seeded Payton Dith (St. Catharines) in a three-set final, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to claim the national title. |

Judah McEachern-Brown Reaches U18 Boys Singles Final Congratulations to Judah McEachern-Brown (Barrie, above centre), who finished as the Boys’ Singles runner-up at the 2026 U18 Fischer Outdoor National Championships. The fifth seed battled third-seeded Andy Kepche (Quebec) in a three-set final, falling 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.
Congratulations to Andrea Taylor (Pickering) and her partner, Sophie Dement (Bradford West Gwillimbury), who captured the Girls’ Doubles title at the 2026 U18 Fischer Outdoor Junior National Championships. The top-seeded pair defeated fellow Ontarians Ava Sanicharan (Pickering) and Elle Tucci (Woodbridge) 6-3, 6-1 in the final to claim the national title.
Congratulations to Luke Laughlin (Newmarket) and Brayden Woo (Richmond Hill), who captured the Boys’ Doubles title at the 2026 U18 Fischer Outdoor National Championships. The top-seeded pair defeated the second seeds, fellow Ontarians Ilya Sherifali (Waterloo) and Evan Xie (Oakville) 4-6, 7-6, 1-0(5) in the final to claim the national title. Community Tennis LeaguesEvent at NBO Toronto! |

The OTA and Tennis Canada hosted a 2-day Community Tennis Leagues (CTL) event this week at the NBO in Toronto. Sixteen players were invited each day to come to Sobeys Stadium and play some singles matches on the NBO practice courts. Refreshments and a light lunch were served and after the event prizes were distributed and the players were given a behind-the-scenes Stadium tour. They also took in the evening sessions of the NBO tournament. A great team was had by all! These matches, and all CTL matches, are counted towards a players’ World Tennis Number (WTN), a global tennis rating system designed to help players find the right playing partner, program, or competition so they can have more meaningful tennis experiences, more often. Thanks to all the players for coming out and supporting CTL and WTN!

Whether new to tennis, returning to the game, or looking for more match play, CTL connects players with similarly skilled players in their local community — helping them play more tennis, track their match activity and progress, and continue improving at their own pace. Congratulations to former OTA junior star Erin Routliffe (Caledon, now playing for New Zealand) and her partner, Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia), who captured the Women’s Doubles title at the recent Mubadala Citi DC Open WTA 500 in Washington, D.C. The second-seeded pair defeated Andreja Klepač of Slovenia and Makoto Ninomiya of Japan 6-4, 6-1 in the final, to win the championship. Congratulations Erin and Aldila! |

UNMATCHED: Gender Equityin Sports Conference at NBO |
||
|
The fifth annual UNMATCHED: Gender Equity in Sports Conference presented by National Bank took place August 11 at Sobeys Stadium, bringing together leaders from across sport, business and the community to talk about where gender equity in sport stands today and what needs to happen next. The day was hosted by CBC Sports broadcaster and two-time Olympian Anastasia Bucsis, with two-time Olympian Cynthia Appiah joining as conference rover. Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, Shauna Bookal, Eric Myles and Mélanie Labelle kicked off the panel discussions for the over 400 leaders, by looking at what’s changed and what hasn’t in Canadian sport, including the progress made and gaps that remain on the road to equity by 2035. Joy SpearChief-Morris, Ellie Black, Dr. Margo Mountjoy and Dr. Janelle Joseph then explored what we’re not seeing, with a focus on women’s health, sport science and how training environments can better support female athletes throughout their careers. The conversation shifted to what’s working with Asia Hogan-Rochester, Melissa Clark, Teresa Resch, Brian Burke and Christine Simpson, who highlighted real-world approaches already helping move sport equity forward. Michelle Yu, Lucie Blanchet, Gavin Ziv and the recently retired WTA pro from Ontario Carol Zhao came together for a leadership conversation on the journey toward equal prize money in 2027, the significance of the milestone and what comes next. As well as the presentations, guests were treated to breakfast, lunch and refreshments and there was plenty of opportunities to network. To finish the day, Coach Carey closed out UNMATCHED 2026 with a message about building confidence and turning the conversations from the day into action. See you next year! |

The OTA’s summer marketing intern Marley launched a new social media miniseries on the OTA’s Facebook and Instagram platforms this summer. In this week’s segment, Marley attends the UNMATCHED: Gender Equity in Sports Conference presented by National Bank which was held on-site at this year’s NBO. Over 350 attendees saw leaders from across sport, business, government and community engage in an interactive experience focused on where the progress in gender equity stands and what it will take to move forward. Follow Marley as the start of the NBO nears and the excitement builds! Join her journey, as she promotes all that the OTA does to continue to grow the sport in Ontario. Marley has exposed you to everything tennis in Ontario, including behind-the-scenes tours, OTA tournament and community outreach coverage, up-and-coming Ontario junior and pro players, contests, special events, and as mentioned, peeks into the preparation and running of the National Bank Open in Toronto. Girls. Set. Match. Events at the NBO! |

The OTA, in partnership with Tennis Canada and led by Girls. Set. Match. (GSM) coordinator Ashley Spironello hosted two events this week at the NBO in Toronto. The first one was a full GSM session on the practice courts at Sobeys Stadium. Twelve young girls from a previous GSM event at Orillia Tennis Club participated in the event and had a surprise guest show up for pictures and sign autographs: Iga Świątek! Iga (above, back row centre) and her team were very impressed with the program supporting girls and took time to sign something for all of them. The girls took away some life long memories!
On another day, several young girls from Headwaters Fitness & Racquet Club, again led by Ashley, did a GSM demo on Centre Court, prior to a tournament match. For more information about GSM, click here. |

Once again, the NBO Toronto ball crew did an outstanding job at the NBO in Toronto. The crack team of 78 boys and girls showed professionalism, enthusiasm and endurance throughout the tournament and showed everybody how to make a hard job easy! Congratulations to the team and their volunteer leaders – another exceptional year! |

Mathieu Sarrazin namedACE Academy Director |

Hiring of top Canadian coach heralds a new era for historic organization. “The future starts now. We found the catalyst for the future.” was Pierre Lamarche’s, CEO of All Canadian Enterprises, first comment in announcing Mathieu Sarrazin’s appointment as the ACE Academy Director. As such, Mathieu will assume direct leadership of the ACE Academy at the SmartVMC club in Vaughan immediately and assume overall management of the Toronto Tennis City and Southwest ACE Academies. Lamarche said that while ACE is celebrating its 50 years of excellence in youth development, it must have creative and knowledgeable leadership to guide Canada’s most successful academy going forward: “ACE needs leadership and knowledge to lead it into a changing industry to be dominated by sport science, analytics and AI.” Sam Aliassime, father of Felix commented to Lamarche:” You have made a great choice in a guy who understands the management of an Academy as well as the development of players at the highest level”. Sarrazin, who ran his own Academy in Quebec for six years, has been involved with Tennis Canada and Quebec tennis as a national and provincial coach as well as the personal coach of some of Canada’s top players: “We got to know Matt through the years. His dedication and passion are pillars that helped Leyla and Bianca in their development years” said Jorge Fernandez, father of Leyla and Bianca Fernandez. Alexis Galarneau, Canadian Davis Cup player, added: “Mathieu’s dedication and passion, combined with his structured approach, allow players to develop with confidence.” Sarrazin will be in Vaughan as of mid-August, where he will assume the head coach position for ACE’s new International Team and National program. Tennis Academy Scholarship Applications Now Open The Burlington Hall Tennis Academy Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to skilled junior players who demonstrate exceptional character, commitment, work ethic, and a passion for the game, while helping remove financial barriers to high-performance training. More than financial support, recipients become Burlington Hall Tennis Academy Ambassadors and leaders who represent our Academy with integrity, give back to the club, and inspire others through their actions on and off the court.
