The OTA office is open - however, it is closed to the public and in-person meetings are strictly by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Meetings via video/phone are preferred at this time. We highly recommend that you contact the staff member in question prior to arriving on the premises.
If you do have an in-person appointment at the OTA office, please note that a mask must be worn at all times. Additionally, you will be required to fill out a COVID-19 assessment form upon arrival.
Yes. A set of recommendations can be found here: https://www.tennisontario.com/pages/return-to-play
Please keep in mind that this is only a guideline for clubs and academies and their players. Ultimately, decisions pertaining to any recommendations are the responsibility of local health departments. The OTA will update this document whenever new information is available.
We have confirmed with the broker (through the insurance company) that unfortunately there are no rebates offered for the insurance.
Please keep in mind that the insurance you buy actually covers the club for an entire year..from April 1 - March 31 (and the cost is very inexpensive to get this coverage). Even though a club might not open on April 1 and might be closed before November (or may not actually operate), it still needs insurance in case someone has an accident during the times not occupied by the club.
Sadly, it seems if someone has an accident (even if it results because someone is doing something illegal), that person tends to sue anyone and everyone. Even if the lawsuit seems frivolous, it still has to be defended by those named in it (such as the club) meaning that legal costs are incurred (which someone has to pay). Even though a club may think the municipality has 100% responsibility in any given situation, the person suing can still name whomever they choose (such as the club).
What we hope to do is to use this year’s situation to exert some pressure on our broker later this year when it is time to negotiate next year’s rates with the insurance company (to see what can be done to make those rates better).
A: Smash Cage reservations for 2021 are currently on hold until further notice.
In these unprecedented times, the OTA recognizes that tennis clubs have a need to now communicate with each other more than ever.
In order to help and support one another, we have created an online forum where our clubs can exchange ideas, brainstorm, and engage with fellow club executives on the unique challenges that clubs are currently facing. The forum is extremely user-friendly and allows for open ended discussions on a wide range of topics that will be of interest to all executives. OTA staff will also participate in the forum and will be available for specific questions and to offer feedback, as needed.
The OTA believes that the forum will be a valuable tool for its clubs and looks forward to having it widely used by their executive members. The forum can be accessed with the same credentials used to login for the online insurance.
A: The OTA is accepting tournament sanction applications for the 2020 outdoor season. If the competitive structure is not in progress at the time of the event date, the OTA will notify the competitive structure and tournament director. The OTA will work with the club stakeholder to reschedule the event for another weekend. If the tournament is not able to run the club will not be held liable for the sanction fee.
The OTA has consulted with Tennis Canada and the Rogers Rankings have been "frozen". We will provide you with an update in the near future regarding next steps specific to how we will manage the 52 week rollover once we reactivate our competitive structure (i.e. Determine the timing of tournaments dropping off from players' rankings).
Some coaching certification courses have now resumed in a small scale in order to make them as covid-safe as is possible.
This means that the maximum #’s allowed in a course (and on 1 court) must meet the guidelines in effect in the city where the course is taking place.
Recently, several cities/regions have been taken back from stage 3.
As a result of this, the OTA is currently evaluating exactly what we can or can’t do in order to run more courses.
If/when more courses are added to the schedule, they will be posted at https://www.tennisontario.com/coaches/coach-certification/course-schedule
A: The current COVID-19 pandemic has no effect on those who need to complete this.
A: In person school visits are currently on hold for the 2020-21 school year.
