Rosemary Goodwin

Regional Chair, Southwest

Meet Rosemary Goodwin, a new addition to the OTA Board of Directors. She joins the board in the capacity of Southwest Region Chair. Rosemary is a late-comer to the sport of tennis, starting as a beginner at age 50. Much of her early volunteer involvement came during 25 winters in Florida, with a commitment to tennis in Niagara-on-the-Lake beginning in 2007. Motivated by the social and friendship side of the game, she produced a weekly newsletter for five years to facilitate the gatherings and connections which produce a strong tennis community. She’s been a member of the NOTL TC executive committee from 2007 to 2012 and from 2020 to the present. In 2013, Rosemary became part of the national Building Tennis Communities program, creating the Niagara Peninsula Tennis Community along with Peter Bedard. Together, they’ve managed a variety of initiatives with schools, municipalities and among clubs in Niagara Region.

Niagara Region is proud to be hosting the 2022 Canada Summer Games, and very much looking forward to being in the national tennis spotlight. Alongside Marianne Groat, Rosemary is co-lead of Sport Operations for the tennis competition, which will be staged on 6 courts in Niagara-on-the-Lake and 4 courts in Welland. It will be a significant challenge to become familiar with the tennis scene in Hamilton, Burlington, Milton and Oakville, but Rosemary very much looking forward to meeting the players and the leaders in these areas and hearing from them how SouthWest Region can best support their goals and objectives. Welcome Rosemary!
