Phil Johnson
Regional Chair - National Capital Tennis Association
A solid “recreational” player, Phil began playing tennis at university (Cambridge, England – Economics & Management Sciences) and has been a tennis club member ever since. He has been at the Manotick Tennis Club in Ottawa for the past 27 seasons and on the Board for the past 22. Playing on the club team with his son and daughter is what he enjoys the most.
Phil joined the National Capitol Tennis Association (NCTA) Board 18 years ago when the organization was in need of re-building. He has been the NCTA President and OTA Board Member for the last 7 years. His philosophy is to strive for continuous improvement – asking how things can be done better, regardless of past successes that the associations have had or might currently enjoy. Representing a region that is 400+ kms from the Aviva Center brings its own challenges, so advocating for a province-wide perspective is a role Phil takes on.
Married for 39 years now, with 4 children and a new grandchild, Phil is a management consultant by profession which speaks to his inclination to challenge organizations to be the best they can be. Phil is a Vice President at Korn Ferry, one of the world’s most prestigious people and organization consulting businesses, where he runs a $100m global business line. One of his personal causes is addressing the gender pay gap and Phil serves on the technical advisory committee for the Pay Equity Commissioner of Canada.
