Paul Cairns

Vice-Chair, Player Development

Paul has been a leader within the Canadian tennis professional industry for the past 24 years. He is currently the Tennis Director at The Boulevard Club where he has worked for 11 years. During his coaching career, he has been fortunate to engage in a wide range of coaching opportunities involving player development, coaching development, and tennis operations.

Paul has always been very passionate about player development. Over his career he has coached several NCAA scholarship athletes. He was one of the U10 National Training Center coaches between 2006 and 2011. In 2008, and 2009, Paul joined the Team Ontario Coaching staff and supported Ontario’s top U12 players at both the Summer and Winter National Championships.

His involvement in coaching development began in 2010, when he was asked to help facilitate the Tennis Canada Coach 2 course. Paul is still an active course facilitator who is heavily involved with the new Club Professional 2 course. In addition to his role as a course facilitator, he has presented at several TPA Coaching conferences and webinars. Paul is certified by Tennis Canada at a Coach 3 and Club Professional 3 level. He has been fortunate to work with many of the top coaches in Canada and in several private tennis Clubs in the GTA. In 2015, he was recognized by the TPA and received the award for Club Professional Excellence.

Working in cooperation with the Philpott Inner City Children’s Fund, Paul developed a free winter tennis program for children in the Parkdale community. Each year this program provides an opportunity for local children to play and grow through the sport of tennis. Paul is hopeful to expand this program in 2022 and encourage other indoor facilities to support the mental and physical development of children in the Toronto area.

Paul serves as Vice-Chair Player Development on the OTA Board of Directors.
