Arthur Wolf

Vice-Chair, Player Development

Arthur’s tennis story begins with summering in Southampton Ontario and taking junior tennis lessons at the Southampton Tennis Club where he started his teaching career as a student summer job. He went on to teach tennis for Peter Dimmer’s tennis camps. Peter was a tremendous mentor who positively impacted Arthur’s professional career.

Arthur is certified by Tennis Canada, Coach 2 & Club Pro 3 as well as by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR). A native Torontonian, Arthur played high school tennis at Lawrence Park Collegiate, before attending University of Toronto Scarborough Campus where he taught tennis to other students through the athletic association.

Not thinking he could make tennis a living, upon graduating from University of Toronto; Arthur took fulltime employment in the group pension and investment sector working for several major insurance companies spanning a successful 25 year career; all the while teaching tennis part-time. There were several occurrences where he would have an out of province meeting and ended up changing on the plane to arrive at the courts at 5 pm. In 2005, shortly after the City of Toronto amalgamation Arthur gave up his office for fulltime coaching and has never looked back.

During his career, he has taught for the City of Etobicoke, the City of North York, NYTA Winter Club, was the Head Pro at the Lawrence Park Tennis Club for 13 seasons and has been the Head Pro at the Wanless Tennis Club for the last 28 seasons.  At NYTA, Arthur was instrumental in rolling out the initial Little Aces program in 2012 which introduced young children to tennis in school gyms. He ran the Tennis Toronto Junior Doubles League from 2007 - 2018 building the league up to over 12 clubs and 140 participants in their one-day finals tournament.

As a volunteer, Arthur was on the Tennis Toronto Board for a number of years in the 90’s and served as it’s Chairperson for a year which was his first opportunity to sit on the OTA Board. He has also served as a volunteer Director on the Lawrence Park, Wanless Park, and Southampton Tennis club’s Boards of Directors spanning 25 plus seasons.

Arthur returned to the OTA Board of Directors as the West Regional Co-Chairperson in 2015 to re-instate representation to a region that had been dormant for numerous years. As Regional Co-Chair he has introduced a regional junior tournament series, held regional certification clinics and subsidized regional clinic participants. His greatest challenge has been trying to connect clubs due to large geographical area the region covers. A positive outcome of the pandemic has been the general use of ZOOM which is helping achieve West Region interconnectivity. As of April 2023, Arthur now serves on the OTA Board as the Vice Chair, Player Development.

Arthur’s proudest achievement outside of tennis is husband of 35 years and father of four (including twin daughters) now adult children. All four of Arthur’s children were certified tennis instructors at one time and his son is Tennis New Brunswick’s Technical Director.
