RULES AND REGULATIONS

Format

  1. A league match consists of four (4) men’s doubles events for all groups.
  2. The team captains will simultaneously exchange their line-up of players a few minutes before play commences. No substitutes should be allowed after the lineups have been exchanged except with the approval of the opposing team captain.
  3. An event shall be decided by the best out of three sets, with a 12-point tiebreaker at 6 games all.
  4. Each event won counts as one point to the team present for each event.
  5. A defaulting club forfeits one point to the team present for each event.
  6. League matches start at 6:30 p.m. with the exception of those clubs with no lights whose starting time will be 6:15 p.m. A team not ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled starting time will be defaulted.
  7. If 2 teams are tied in points, the winner will be the team that has the greatest difference between sets won and lost. If the sets are also tied, the winner will be team that has won the most games.
  8. Both team captains shall report the results by fax to the secretary not later than the day following the match.
  9. An incomplete event must be completed, with the same players, within TWO (2) (2) (2) weeks of the scheduled date, starting from the end of the last completed game. In case of a match being postponed and the alternate date not agreed upon within 24 hours, the home team captain sets the alternate date. If the visiting team cannot meet the set date, it is defaulted and the home team wins.
  10. During the last week of the regular schedule, if a match is postponed, it must be played the following night.
  11. The winner of each section has the option of advancing one section higher. If this option is taken, the last place team will drop one section.
  12. A maximum of 2 teams from any club can play in the same section.
  13. A section will consist of a maximum of 8 teams.
  14. A team that does not have 4 courts available must call the visiting team captain 24 hours before the start of the match to arrange the order of play.
  15. Players must wear regulation tennis attire and abide by the host club’s rules.

Eligibility

  1. Every club must be affiliated with the Ontario Tennis Association.
  2. A player must be a junior member or a bona fide dues-paying adult member of his club or a professional employed by that club.
  3. Professionals are allowed to play in the A1 ands A2 divisions only. Professionals shall be defined as persons who teach tennis on a full-time basis year-round or during the summer.
  4. There shall be no limit to the number of professionals who can play on a team in the A1 division.
  5. The number of professionals allowed to play in the A2 Division shall be limited to a maximum of 2 per team per night.
  6. Each team captain is expected to play his team in order of skill.
  7. No player shall take part in more than one event in any match.
  8. No player who has played more than one match on any team can move to a lower category.
  9. No player can play for more than one club in any season.
  10. No player having a match can be transferred to another team in the same group.
