Al Theobald

In 1958, Al Theobald was a founding member of Burlington Tennis Club at which he is still involved.  He was on the Executive Committee in the earlier years.  In those years, Al agreed to set up a coaching committee.  With many teenagers joining the club, Al was instrumental in the club hiring a tennis professional.  His efforts over the years increased the membership from the initial 22 to over 700 members now.  For 50 years through coaching, he has been an active role model for youth from 3 years old to university entrance.  He believes that the future of tennis lies with the youth, and he dedicates his time with them imparting his enthusiasm for the game.  Many of the juniors that he has coached have obtained US tennis scholarships through his efforts.

Not only is he involved with the juniors, he also organizes, including prizes and food, the Master's Tournament at the club, which he did for 36 years! He is a lifetime member of the club and the honourary junior coach.
